Being close to an addict feels like you're on a tightrope at the circus. I know. You put yourself out there, with plenty of chance for failure, plenty of room to fall, and crowds of people who will watch. The people don't understand your passion, but they applaud at the spectacle. My brother Shane died of an accidental and fatal fentanyl overdose a year ago on June 29, 2016. The tightrope feeling is gone, but I still want to put this story out there, in hopes that other families might feel strength and solidarity to be there for their loved ones.
